IMPORTANT

The date of the Desafio Solar Brasil has changed. The race will now take place from 16th-24th October. We apologize for the inconvenience, this change was made due to a request from the Science and Technology Ministry.

The teams who have asked for a catamaran can come and pick their boat up from the Polo Nautico, from the 12-26th August.

For those who’re having difficulties finding parts and equipment, we have found a retailer based in Rio who imports and sells most boat parts from most fabricants:

Henrique Schroeder

Globall Trade Imp. & Exp. Ltda.

Tel.: 55 (21) 8137-0432

email: henrique@globalltrade.com.br

The solar panels provided by Kyocera are available and can be picked up from the Polo Nautico. Please get in touch to arrange a date/time to pick them up.

We can provide two batteries for each team – but please lease let us know as soon as possible by email if you will be wanting the batteries. You can see the specifications of the batteries in the document below (please get in touch if you need a translation….)

The organizers of the Frisian Solar Challenge changed the stability criteria in their rules for the 2010 race. As none of our teams have started building their boat yet, we thought we could still change our rules accordingly, so that the boats you build are in line with the Frisian Solar Challenge criteria, in case you want to take part next year!

However, to approve this modification to our rules, we would like everyone to confirm that they agree with it, before the 9th July…..

Here are the details of the modification:
Instead of:

” 5 – Stability: The stability of the vessels must be such that: a mas of 10% of the total mass of the vessel without the crew members in a position on the outer edge of the vessel, and with the crew member(s) in their normal position, will not result in lean over exceeding 15 degrees. In that case none of the openings in the hull, such as the outlet opening of the bilge-pump(s) and the deck edge maye be submerged below the waterline.”  According to the 2008 rules

We’ll have:

” 5- The stability of the vessels must be such that a prescribed rolling moment of 150 Nm applied to the vessel with the vessel loaded with a load of 50 kg at the location of seat of the skipper, will not result in lean over exceeding 12.5 degrees.” According to the new 2010 rules
